What is Haze?
Haze is a phenomenon caused by the existence of small particles which cannot be seen by the naked eye and float in the air. These particles may have come naturally or as an effect of human activity. When these particles exist in large amount and cluster, it can block the sunlight from reaching the earth. Because of this it reduces the eye viewing distance.
Causes of Haze
The main causes of haze are:
- Open Burning
- Smoke from Factories
- Smoke from Vehicles
Avoid from Doings Which Can Cause Haze
Air Pollution Index (API)
API is derived from measurement of fine dust (10 microns and below) and a few types of gas which can affect health namely carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and ozone. API is used as a guide to know the air quality and its effect to health. API measurement and status are as follows:
API Value | Status |
0 – 50 | Good |
51 – 100 | Moderate |
101 – 200 | Unhealthy |
201 – 300 | Very unhealthy |
301 – 500 | Dangerous |
You should follow the current development through mass media (press, television and radio) to know current haze level in your place so that could take preventive measures.
